Criteria

I want to make a difference! The Moto in the Community Trust is a grant making charity. However, we are about more than just handing over money - we want to build relationships and work together in the long term. That is why each of our sites can adopt a Local Charity of the Year.

If you are a charity, community group or good cause located within 25 miles of a Moto site you could be eligible to become one of our local charities of the year. You should send details about your group to motocharity@talking360.com and the Trust Administrator will get in touch with you to discuss your group.

The Trustees who manage the Trust evaluate every application for support. Applications are looked on favourably when they clearly provide opportunities for Moto to engage with the organization making the application. This could be by including Moto staff in a volunteering programme, by visiting a Moto site to tell staff more about a project or through an existing relationship the good cause has with a Moto staff member.

Each grant application is considered by the Trustees of Moto in the Community, who meet every 12 weeks in January, April, July and October.

Are you eligible?

The Moto in the Community Trust looks to support a wide variety of local charity and community projects.

Where to find usThere are three types of support under the Moto in the Community Trust umbrella:

  • Local Charity of the Year
  • Employee Volunteering
  • Individual Benevolent Fund Grant

Due to the high volume of applications that we receive, we have established certain funding guidelines that allow our charity to focus on our key objectives. This means that we only consider grants for projects that benefit communities where Moto is present, or that we have a significant staff catchment. As a rule our catchment area is 25 miles radius of a Moto site.

We encourage applications if:

  • You are a charity or a good cause within 25 miles of a Moto service area. Click here to see our site map
  • The project you are telling us about is in line with the objectives of the Moto in the Community Trust. Click here to learn about our objectives.
  • The beneficiaries of the grant are UK based.
  • Your project involves or affects Moto staff or their families.

The Trust does not currently support:

  • Applications that are for the promotion of religion or politics
  • Overseas projects
  • Applications from animal welfare charities

Questions and answers

How can I become a Local Charity of the Year?

You should send details of your group by e-mail to motocharity@talking360.com

The Trust Administrator will then get in touch with you and let you know if there is a vacancy for a local charity of the year in your area and put you in touch with the right person at your local Moto site. If there is no vacancy, your details will be kept on file for future consideration. Applications for support from the Moto in the Community Trust that are not specific to one location should be in writing BY EMAIL directly to the Trust Office motocharity@talking360.com

What size grants do you make?

There is no minimum or maximum amount. The Moto in the Community Trust seeks to support as many community projects as possible. It would be unusual for the Trustees to approve a grant exceeding £10,000 at this time. Grants are usually only granted to our partner local and national charities.

What type of projects do you support?

We support all types of projects, however in order to focus on our objectives we have a set criteria for grant applications. See section above on criteria.

Do you have a national charity of the year?

Yes, our current charity of the year is Help for Heroes. Our charity of the year is reviewed at the Trustee meetings that fall in July and October.

Do you give grants outside the UK?

Only in special circumstances.

When will I hear if my application has been successful?

The Trustees meet every three months, therefore you should expect to wait a maximum of 12 weeks for a response. Alternatively you can contact the Trust Administrator for more details on when the Trustees meet.

Can I talk to someone in person about the Trust?

Yes, you can contact the Trust Administrator on 01525 714467 or email motocharity@talking360.com
