Friends of the Trust

As part of our fundraising activities, we actively encourage other organisations to either partner with us on a specific campaign or pledge funds to benefit a community of their own.   If you would like to find out more about becoming a “Friend”, please contact the Trust office on 01525 717303 or email motocharity@talking360.com

Adopt a School
Every Moto site in the UK has adopted a local school in order to focus their support on building strong community links with one school. The schools that form part of our ‘Adopt a School’ programme will be weaved into our community activities, which include our staff volunteering scheme – ‘making a difference’. We have 30 Moto staff volunteers qualified as Reading Buddies already working in our adopted schools, and offer reading support into our communities.

Orchard ToysOur special thanks to Orchard Toys who are supporting our reading buddies with resources that make it possible to work on both social and communication skills with our children as well as their reading abilities. Orchard Toys design and manufactures quality games and puzzles in the UK, to make learning fun for children between 18 months and 12 years.  For more information visit their website www.orchardtoys.com.

Moto sites have been busy building strong bonds with their adopted schools.  Following an extensive survey carried out with each Head Teacher, the Trust has been able to identify opportunities to provide support and assistance.  Each Moto site has their own calendar of fundraising events tailored to raising funds for specific projects at our adopted schools eg;

  • Funding and planting sensory gardens
  • Funding musical instruments allowing more children access to learn a musical instrument
  • Improving school libraries with books to encourage children to be inspired by books
  • Funding and supporting new sports and equipment
  • Setting competitions and supporting initiatives that are linked to the education of environmental topics, including recycling and creative campaigns

Fundraising partners

The Trust is very pleased to be working with the following organisations on fundraising projects;

Oxford University Press

10,000 books for 10,000 kids Campaign
Earlier this year, Moto staff around the UK held various fundraising events specifically to fund the presentation of 10,000 new fictions books to our 10,000 adopted school children.  We are very proud to partner with the Oxford Unversity Press in their centenary year.

Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford.  It furthers the University’s objective of excellence in research, scholarship and education by publishing worldwide.  100 years after founding its first children’s books imprint, Oxford continues to publish a wide range of prize winning children’s fiction, non-fiction, picture books.

Oxford University Press has made it possible for us to purchase more than 10,000 fiction books to enrich the lives of our adopted children.

If you would like to learn more about this campaign or view some of the book presentations, please click here

We have also been supported by specialist publishers Barrington whose mission is to help children enjoy reading. Barrington Stoke publish accessible, enjoyable and unpatronising short books for children who are dyslexic, struggling to read, or simply reluctant to sit down with a book.

With the support and advice given by both these organisations, the Trust has really made a difference to the library resources of our adopted schools.

The Trust are now focussing on continuing with this campaign into 2008 focusing on supporting our schools with resources that will enthuse those children who find reading difficult.

Friends of the Trust – Christmas Book Appeal 2007

A further campaign supported by Oxford University Press is our Christmas Book Appeal 2007.  Friends of the Trust have been given the opportunity to pledge funds towards the gift of books for a childrens ward in a hospital or hospice anywhere in the UK.  This has also extended to schools outside our adopted school network.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the following organisations for their generous pledges to this campaign.

Books

Our special thanks to Oxford University Press and The Book People for their support for this campaign.

If you would like to become a friend of the Trust and do something worthwhile in your community with the gift of books, then please contact the Trust office or visit our JustGiving campaign site www.justgiving.co.uk/christmasbooksappeal

Creativity International - Art Attack

The Trust has also formed great relations with Creativity International, suppliers of craft products and teaching aids to schools internationally.  Creativity International has supported numerous campaigns linked to our adopted schools including;

School Summer club activity packs
Creativity International worked with the Trust to design weekly projects to assist our schools with their summer club activities engaging children in fun craft projects that with free art materials kindly donated by Creativity International.

Get Groovy and Get Sticking mural competition
During the Autumn of 2007 our adopted schools were challenged to design a mural with an environmental theme, again using materials supplied by Creativity International.  This project has seen our schools really thinking about their impact on the environment.  Judging of the murals is currently taking place with judges from the Hit TV series Art Attack choosing finalists who will have the opportunity to display their murals at their local Moto location.

10,000 BOOKS FOR 10,000 KIDS
We are currently working with Oxford University Press to produce a home library box for every one of our adopted schools, to help encourage the imagination of our 10,000 children.  Our home library boxes will be full of exciting fiction books and we are challenging our fundraising teams to raise enough money to introduce 10,000 books across our network of adopted schools.  If you think you or your organisation can help us achieve this challenge, then please contact Suzanne Hollinshead, Trustee on 01525 714467 or email Suzanne@talking360.com

Mobile Phone Recycling working with Greener Solutions

The Moto in the Community Trust look for environmental projects that will help to encourage and educate Moto customers and communities, creating a better environmental future for generations to come.  During 2007 the Moto in the Community Trust have joined forces with Greener Solutions who have become the European leaders in the recycling of mobile phones.

Woodland Trust

The Moto in the Community Trust formed a partnership with the Woodland Trust during the autumn of 2005. Moto People demonstrated their enthusiasm for the support of an environmental charity by holding a ‘Tree-mendous Tree Challenge’ at all Moto sites around the UK. This public facing campaign raised £25,000 for the Woodland Trust in just five days. The funds raised have paid to plant and maintain 2,500 saplings in Woodland Trust conservation areas around the UK. Moto staff have been given the opportunity to go along to the public planting days to help plant the trees.
